Apply what you learn today in your career tomorrow
The Cranefield Academy of Knowledge is a division of Cranefield College, which is one of the first Private Higher Education Institutions to be registered in South Africa. The Cranefield Academy offers a range of job-relevant short courses that focus on particular areas to meet individual needs. In line with Cranefield’s approach that students must be able to apply what they learn today the very next day at work, short courses are all about practical application in your current and/or future work context.

Earn CPD credits or work towards earning an accredited qualification
Apart from the practical value of applying the knowledge and skills gained on a chosen short course in your work context, the advantage of completing a short course through the Cranefield Academy is that success therein can contribute towards your potential further studies or professional development portfolio in one or more of the following ways:
Cranefield College offers a number of full academic programmes internationally (online) from the Advanced Certificate in Project Management to the PhD in Commerce and Administration. All academic programmes are accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee of the CHE. Cranefield is also ISO-9001-certified by the British Standards Institute (BSI). Note that for a short course to bear credits for the purposes of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), it must be directly related to a qualification (e.g. a degree or diploma) as such. Accordingly, short courses that do not fall into category 3) above are not credit-bearing courses and credits are not awarded against any level on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) for such a course. However, the learning acquired will contribute to RPL.
A student who achieves the outcomes of a short course will receive a certificate of successful completion awarded by Cranefield College.

- You could gain access to a full academic programme (i.e. leading to a formal qualification such as degree, diploma or advanced certificate) on the basis of recognition of prior learning (RPL), considering all your studies and experience to date.
- You could gain exemption from certain modules or part thereof on an academic programme on the basis of having completed a short course, or combination of courses, covering the same scope. Such exemption is also assessed in terms of Cranefield’s RPL policy.
- Selected short courses are themselves complete modules that are part of an academic programme, and accordingly earn credits in terms of credit accumulation and transfer, as prescribed by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), towards the relevant qualifications at Cranefield College.
- Selected short courses earn continuing professional development (CPD) credits/units, which are validated/accredited by the relevant professional bodies.
