Advanced Writing Skills

The Advanced Writing Skills short course gives you the opportunity to apply yourself in attaining higher levels of skill in accurate and correct writing. It is based on practical hands-on development, relying predominantly on the close interaction between lecturer and student.

Who is this course designed for?

The course is specifically designed for:

  • Students who have already completed the Advanced Business English or Advanced Legal English short course (or equivalent), and would like to develop their skills to a higher level.
  • Most of the assignments undertaken in the ‘Advanced Writing Skills’ course are similar to those in the Advanced Business English course, but they are more extensive and a considerably higher level of mastery is expected. Aspects of style, register and tone can also be more closely addressed.

Technology-Enhanced Distance Learning

All short courses are completed individually through technology-enhanced distance learning. You do not need to attend any classes. You have access to your lecture videos and other material on a weekly basis, and all your assignments are submitted online.

Course Fee

The fee is R 14, 500.00, which includes your online study material. Persons based outside South Africa can pay in US Dollars, Euros or GB Pounds. Payment of fees must be effected before access to the course.

Course Availability

Short courses are available internationally. A new cycle of short courses starts every first Monday of each month from February to November.

Assessment and Awarding of Certificates

You will complete weekly online exercise assignments that combine to yield your final mark. The questions may involve multiple choice, a brief discussion of an important issue, or solving a short case study. Your final course mark will be based on the average of the weekly scores achieved. The final pass mark is 50%. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the course. Should you achieve a distinction (75% or higher), this will be so indicated on your certificate.

Entrance Requirements

The course is open to anyone who is basically proficient in English and has internet access.

Minimal Set-up Requirements

The distance learning approach requires a student only to have basic Internet and email access.
